Referring Students to Disability Services
Confidentiality
If you have concerns about a student and are interested
in referring the student to Disability Services, please keep in mind that
you should not ask if the individual has a disability. You may, however, provide the
student with a list of resources that includes Disability Services. Other useful resources are Student Academic Services (303-492-1416),
the Program for Writing and Rhetoric Writing Center (303-492-8890), and
Residence Halls Academic Support (303-492-0640).
Free Screeners
Students with academic concerns are welcome to meet with a Disability
Specialist to determine whether or not they should be tested for a learning
disability, referred for ADHD testing, or other medical and/or psychological
assessments. Students may also be referred to other academic resources
on campus. To make an appointment for a screener, the student should contact
Disability Services at 303-492-8671. Disability Services is located in
Willard 322.
Students with Documentation of a Disability
If a student indicates that he or she has a disability,
the student should be directed to Disability Services in Willard 322. The student will need to submit
documentation of the disability and request to meet with a specialist. After reading the documentation,
the Specialist will then contact the student to arrange an intake appointment.
DS discourages faculty from accepting (and evaluating) documentation directly
from students as this is the role of Disability Services.
