		Computer Worm Stopper Wins CU-Boulder Student Award for One of Nation's Best Responses After 36 hours of last-minute computer programming to prevent the CU-Boulder network from being compromised by the invasive "Blaster" worm, Davis Chen finally relaxed -- and began preparing for class.

		Physics Professor Awarded CU-Boulder's Top Teaching and Research Honor Physics Professor Uriel Nauenberg has been selected to receive the university's highest recognition for teaching and research, the Hazel Barnes Prize, for his work in high-energy physics.

		CU-Boulder Professors Receive Guggenheim, Sloan Awards Three CU-Boulder professors have been awarded Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowships for 2004 and another has received a Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship.

Celebrating the Past Year
The May 7 commencement is a time of celebration for all of us. It's a time for reflection on recent campus accomplishments, and the successes of the students whom we've cared for during the past several years.

AWARDS AND KUDOS

Lisa Adair, Nancy McElroy, Peggy McKinney, and Ellen Romig
Chancellor Byyny honored four winners of the 2004 Chancellor's Employee of the Year awards at a reception on April 12. The awardees are: Lisa Adair, Facilities Management; Nancy McElroy, Theatre and Dance; Peggy McKinney, English Department, and Ellen Romig, College of Engineering. Each winner received an engraved plaque and $1,000 one-time pay (less applicable payroll taxes). Chancellor Byyny appreciates all of the nominations that were submitted, and thanks the many department who participated in this year's competition.

Johanna Maes
Johanna Maes, director of the Pre-Collegiate Development Program, has been named a 2004 fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute. NHLI prepares Hispanic women who have demonstrated leadership at the local level for positions of national influence and public policy impact. Johanna is a native of Pueblo and a graduate of the CU-Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She holds a master's degree in Education from Regis University.

Generous Gold Rush Settler
Andrew J. Macky, a Pike's Peak Gold Rush settler, carpenter and founding director of the First National Bank of Boulder, bequeathed $300,000 to the university to build the auditorium that bears his name. It was completed in 1922.

Spring Tree Walk, Tuesday, May 11, 5:15 p.m.
An annual spring tradition, the walk is led by Alan Nelson, Grounds Manager at CU-Boulder, and co-sponsored by Henderson Museum, the CU Heritage Center, and Facilities Management. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the beautiful trees on our campus. Meet at the south entrance to the Henderson Museum for the walk, and enjoy a brief reception afterwards in the Heritage Center (third floor of Old Main).
