FROM THE CHANCELLOR CU in the Summer Although commencement officially marks the end of the academic year, it's important to note that significant discovery, teaching and learning opportunities happen in CU-Boulder laboratories, classrooms and studios throughout the year, including summer. AWARDS AND KUDOS New Assistant Athletic Director Ruphael Gebre-Mariam is the new assistant athletic director of athletic ticketing in the Department of Athletics. He started full time in his new position June 16th. Gebre-Mariam previously worked in the athletics department's ticket office as an undergraduate in the late 1980s. After graduation he was the department's travel coordinator and a purchasing supervisor until 1997, when he took a job at CIRES. School of Journalism The advertising program at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication was awarded $5,000 from the Leo Burnett Agency in Chicago for scholarships and the purchase of a color printer. The program received the funds in recognition of the outstanding work by advertising students. Leo Burnett is an international advertising agency with notable clients such as Altoids, Kraft, Pillsbury and Jolly Green Giant. DID YOU KNOW? Orientation is Underway Orientation, advising and registration programs for freshmen and transfer students began June 14 and continues through Aug. 19. The programs are designed to help create a smooth transition to the university for students and their parents. For more information, visit the Orientation web site.
