Teaching in the Land of the Rising Sun Thomas Zeiler, chair of the history department, will travel to Tokyo during the next academic year as a Fulbright scholar. Zeiler will teach four classes including America Through Baseball, a popular history class among CU-Boulder students, at the University of Tokyo and Japan's Women's University.

FROM THE CHANCELLOR Systemic Change: Integrating Athletics and Academics We have a very serious responsibility to make deep, substantive and lasting changes that will integrate the Athletics Department more fully into the life of the campus. Clearly, it's going to take everyone's help to make it happen AWARDS AND KUDOS Fulbright Scholars Bryan Pellom, a research assistant professor at the Center for Spoken Language Research, and Thomas Zeiler, professor and chair of the history department, have been awarded Fulbright Scholar grants for 2004-05. Pellom, an expert in speech recognition software, will teach and conduct research at the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. Zeiler, an expert in U.S. foreign policy, will lecture and conduct research at the University of Tokyo and Japan Women's University. Richard Perdue Professor Richard Perdue of the Leeds School of Business has been elected president of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. The academy is the premier scholarly organization in its field. Its goal is to further the scholarly research and professional investigation of tourism. During his two-year tenure, Perdue plans to continue to build and strengthen the academy's membership and oversee its biennial conference in Beijing in July 2005. DID YOU KNOW? Ride the Rockies The 19th Annual Ride the Rockies event will kick off from the CU-Boulder campus on June 20, 2004. The 2,000 participating cyclists will begin arriving on the morning of June 19, and the Boulder campus will be hosting a myriad of activities for the riders.
