CU-Boulder Community Members Lend Their Expertise to the Olympics
As the Olympic Games come home to Greece this year, John Lymberopoulos, retired professor of international business and finance, also returns to his native Greece as the liaison for the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Cultural Unity Center Gets A New Name
The Cultural Unity Center recently changed its name to the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA). The need for a new name was determined through feedback from students, staff, alumni and parents, as well as research of similar programs at peer institutions.

New Apartments, Commons Area Open at Bear Creek
Students at CU-Boulder soon will have additional living space and new recreational facilities at Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village. A second 499-bed apartment building opens Aug. 16.



		CU-Boulder Police Chief, Public Safety Director Jim Fadenrecht Announces Retirement After 30 Years Jim Fadenrecht, chief of the CU-Boulder Police department since 1991 and a 30-year veteran of the department, has announced his retirement effective Jan. 31, 2005.

		NSF Awards CU-Boulder $2.4 Million For Five-year Climate Policy Study A University of Colorado at Boulder science policy center has received a $2.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study the process of decision making in uncertain situations as part of the U.S. Climate Change Research Initiative.

		CU-Boulder Geology Team Traces Origins, Uplift Of California's Highest Mountains A new study of California's southern Sierra Nevada range by a University of Colorado at Boulder research team has located a massive body of rock that sank into Earth's mantle some 3.5 million years ago, allowing the mountains to pop up.

Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement Receives Generous Gift
A gift of $500,000 will advance development of the proposed CU-Boulder Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement. The gift will provide funding for future program development and completion of research. The institute aims to establish ethical and civic engagement as a defining characteristic of the CU-Boulder campus.

Libby Arts RAP
A new residential academic program in the arts opens this fall in Libby Hall, led by Deborah Haynes, professor of art and art history and director of the program. The Libby RAP offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, including theatre and dance, film studies and visual arts. The new space in Libby includes an art studio, performance dance floor, media room, three smart classrooms and collaborative office space for faculty and staff.
