FROM THE CHANCELLOR A Fresh Start The end of the spring semester brings a successful close to another academic year. It also provides opportunities for a look ahead. Fall 2005 promises to be an exciting time in CU-Boulder history. Let me share some upcoming plans for the Boulder campus next year. AWARDS AND KUDOS Chancellor's Employee of the Year Awardees Honored at Reception. Chancellor Phil DiStefano honored four winners of this year's Chancellor's Employee of the Year awards at a reception and awards presentation on April 21. Brenda Dowell, department of speech, language and hearing sciences; Ken Kucera, Department of Housing; Jerry Leigh, department of physics; and Nancy Vanacore, Office of International Education each received an engraved plaque and $1,000 one-time pay (less applicable payroll taxes). The chancellor thanked those who nominated fellow community members and all participants. BFA Excellence Awards Eleven faculty members have received 2004-2005 Excellence Awards from the Boulder Faculty Assembly. Excellence in Teaching award recipients are Elspeth Dusinberre, classics; Michael Eisenberg, computer science; Elena Kostoglodova, Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures; and Gary McClelland, psychology. Excellence in Service award recipients are David Clough, chemical engineering; David Kassoy, mechanical engineering; and David Armstrong, ecology and evolutionary biology. Recipients of the Excellence in Research, Scholarly and Creative Work award are Patricia Adler, sociology; Fred Anderson, history; Andrzej Ehrenfeucht, computer science; and Alan Weimer, chemical and biological engineering. Buff Energy Star Award Winners Save $72,000 in Energy Costs Five CU-Boulder buildings received the 2004 Buff Energy Star Award for reducing their building's energy use by at least 5 percent per square foot, saving the university $72,000 in energy costs for the 2003-04 fiscal year. Students, faculty and staff from Fiske Planetarium, Ketchum Arts and Sciences, Muenzinger Psychology, Regent Administrative Center and the University Memorial Center were recognized by CU-Boulder's Office of Energy Conservation and the Environmental Center during Energy Conservation Week, April 4-8. DID YOU KNOW? Reminder: Open Enrollment is Underway Open Enrollment for 2005-06 takes place April 25 through May 27. The first few weeks are devoted to reviewing materials and providing learning opportunities for employees to make the best decisions about their benefits. The Open Enrollment Calendar provides dates, times and places for informational sessions. An Online application will be available May 11-27. Look for more information at www.cu.edu/pbs. Who Loves You, CU? You may have noticed "I Love CU" pins appearing on lapels and T-shirts, book bags and more. The "I Love CU" pin project began with a brainstorm from Professor Patty Limerick and has blossomed into a way for us all to express our CU pride. The project is coordinated through CU-Boulder Community Relations.
