FROM THE CHANCELLOR Improving the Climate for CU-Boulder Women As you may know, the Chancellor's Committee on Women issued a report last month on the campus environment for women. I will work with the committee and other campus leaders this summer to address their top recommendations. I'd like to share with you some of our plans to enhance the living, learning and working environment for CU-Boulder women faculty, staff and students. AWARDS AND KUDOS Student-Athletes Make Graduation History This year student-athletes made history by graduating at a higher percentage compared to the general student population in the last six-year cycle. Seventy percent of student-athletes graduated compared with 66 percent of the general student body. Football players had a 79 percent graduation rate and women's basketball 67 percent. Fifty-seven percent of the 328 student-athletes completed the fall semester with at least a 2.5 GPA. Robert Dieter Nominated Ambassador to Belize On May 6 Law Professor Robert Dieter was nominated by President Bush to be America's ambassador to Belize, pending Senate approval. Dieter is director of clinical programs and teaches criminal law and procedure, trial advocacy and evidence. He practiced law both privately and as a deputy district attorney and joined the CU faculty in 1979. Bush appointed Dieter to the board of the Legal Services Corporation in 2003. Herbert Covert's Work Noted in USA Today Professor Herbert Covert of the anthropology department recently hosted a series of workshops that were featured at the American Association of Physical Anthropologists meeting in Milwaukee and also gained the attention of USA Today. An article about Covert's work appeared in the April 26 edition of the newspaper. The workshops focused on primate conservation in Vietnam. University Perspective Program Graduates 16 Human Resources' University Perspective program graduated 16 participants at a May 11 ceremony held in the UMC. Graduates are Yama Ahmadullah, Public Safety; Debbie Ash, Institute of Behavioral Science; Bonnee Basso, Engineering Management; Kym Calvo, Human Resources; Barb Cline, Office of the Registrar; Dave Deffenbacher, Office of Planning, Budget and Analysis; Kathryn Husson, Department of Housing; Jonna Fleming, Wardenburg; George Hoey, Career Services; Catherine Larkins, Human Relations and Risk Management; David Normann, Information Technology Services; Lee Silbert, Office of Planning, Budget and Analysis; Linda Starkey, Academic Affairs and Research; Terri Stankiewicz, Facilities Management; Holly Wiemers, Information Technology Services; and Julia Willis, Student Academic Services Center. Cheer For Your Favorite Staff/Faculty Softball Team The staff/faculty summer softball league season is underway.
