FROM THE CHANCELLOR Noteworthy Contributions Much has been happening around the nation and on the Boulder campus recently. I"d like to share some examples of how CU-Boulder faculty, staff and students are working to improve the lives of others in Colorado and beyond, as well as adding to the world"s storehouse of knowledge. More >> AWARDS AND KUDOS Fiske Turns 30 Fiske Planetarium will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a gala Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The evening will feature a dinner, speakers from CU"s department of astrophysical and planetary sciences and a live jazz concert under the planetarium dome. Proceeds from the evening will provide new hands-on exhibits for the Fiske Planetarium lobby. For more information, including ticket prices, see the press release. CU Fire Academy is National Model for Safety CBS4 recently reported that Ed Comeau from the Center for Campus Fire Safety is calling CU-Boulder"s Resident Advisor Fire Academy a national model for safety. The Academy is run by the Boulder Fire Department and provides hands-on fire safety training to over 200 resident advisors. To view the CBS4 clip go to CBS4Denver.com Video Library and search for “CU Fire Drill.” Then click on “CU Fire Drill Shows Students How To React.” Troops Thankful for Staff Donations Staff members who attended the Spring Appreciation Luncheon last semester pitched in to generate nine boxes of toiletries and food for troops deployed in Iraq. CU-Boulder Staff Council sent the boxes to the men and women of FSC 2/69 AR BN, who appreciated the items and the support. Staff Council adopted the troops last spring and are still in contact with them. If you would like to donate items or your time to this effort, please email Antonette Martinez, Staff Council chair. Women Selected to Represent CU-Boulder at Institute Terri Stankiewicz, manager of communications and employee relations in Facilities Management and Jan Whitt, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, have been selected to represent CU-Boulder in the 2005-06 Academic Management Institute. Both are members of the Chancellor"s Committee on Women. They will take part in four intensive workshops with women from other colleges and universities during the 2005-2006 fall and spring semesters. DID YOU KNOW?
