FROM THE CHANCELLOR Bringing the Campus Together on an Issue That Affects Us All A remembrance of Gordie Bailey was recently held on campus and at the former Chi Psi house. Gordie Bailey is the student who died September 17, 2004, of alcohol poisoning following a pledge initiation activity. The remembrance was not only about Gordie, his qualities, and the loss to his family as well as to all of us. The remembrance was also about the need for leadership on alcohol abuse. DID YOU KNOW? Chancellor's Open Forum All faculty and staff are invited to the first 2005-2006 Chancellor's Open Forum today, Tuesday, Sept. 27. The forum will be held in Old Main Chapel, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Heritage Center, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Promoted and tenured faculty will be recognized. All faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend. Open Forum on Improving the Campus Environment for Women The Office of Diversity and Equity and the Chancellor's Committee on Women will host an Open Forum on Improving the Campus Environment for Women Monday, Oct. 3 in Old Main Chapel, 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. CCW will present a summary of input from focus groups conducted with faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate women, and Chancellor DiStefano and Provost Susan Avery will discuss suggestions for change and implementation of new initiatives. National Black History Series Featuring CU-Boulder Faculty, Students on PBS A new documentary, "The History of Black Achievement in America," co-produced by Alphonse Keasley, director of the Minority Arts and Sciences program and featuring CU-Boulder African American faculty and students, is currently showing on Denver PBS affiliate KBDI. The eight-part series airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. and will continue through the end of October. PBS stations in major U.S. cities will air the program in October and again in February. For more information on the project, read the original CU-Boulder press release. Fall Break is Oct. 13-14 Reminder: No classes will be held Oct. 13-14 due to Fall Break.
