 CU Opera performs first university production of "Dead Man Walking"
The College of Music's CU Opera is staging the university and Rocky Mountain region premiere of "Dead Man Walking." The opera was written by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Terrance McNally in 2000, and was based on the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book by Sister Helen Préjean, which also inspired the 1996 film. "Dead Man Walking" has become one of the world's most performed new operas. The subject matter is for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
Related events are free and open to the public, and include a screening of the film "Dead Man Walking," a lecture and discussion on the death penalty, and a panel discussion featuring Sister Helen Préjean and composer Jake Heggie. For tickets and more information, call 303-492-8008 or visit www.cuconcerts.org. Discounted tickets are available for members of the CU-Boulder community, senior citizens, youth and groups. |
